Katharina Treml is an Austrian-born potter based along the beautiful copper coast in County Waterford, Ireland. She makes wheel thrown tableware and one-off decorative pieces in stoneware and porcelain.Statement:I make pots for the table and one-off vessels in stoneware and porcelain. I am interested in pots that are a quiet, but enriching part of peoples everyday lives. They can hold memories of a really good meal, a certain moment, story or person. I like the tension between looseness and definition, the interplay of considered craftmanship and unpredictability of movement in the kiln. Traditional ash glazes with local clay and rock additions decorate the surfaces. Most recently, my work has seen an exploration of silky microcrystalline glazes that, layered in different ways, create movement and depth of surface.
