Ann McBride is an artist and illustrator. She returned to college to gain a degree in ceramic design, transferring her skills in illustration and graphics onto the 3D clay form. Her work is recognizable by bold, colourful surface decoration, whimsical, unique and a little subversive. She creates visually impactful wall installations and plinth based slip-cast ceramics. The core of her practice are the rich illustrations that take inspiration from nature and the traditional decorative arts.
The work has a joyful aesthetic, creating fun and movement on the static ceramic surface. Inspired by figurative female forms from historical works of art, which are lifted from the past and subverted with tattoos to address feminist issues.
She creates one-off or limited edition pieces. Since graduating she has won numerous awards, with her work held in public and private collections.
