“Luka Bloom's comfort in his own skin bears testament to a road well travelled...Magnificent.” –The Irish Times
Ballymaloe Grainstore is delighted to welcome back the master troubadour, Luka Bloom, on Saturday 9 November. Luka has enjoyed more than twenty years of world-wide success, powered by his electro-acoustic guitar playing and impassioned live performances of his original, poetic and melodic songs.
Since the release of one of the all-time Irish classics, "Riverside" in 1990, people from all corners of the globe have embraced the beauty of this remarkable musician. He has a catalogue of recordings to which any songwriter would aspire.
Luka comes from a family of singers and songwriters and he first went on tour many moons ago with older brother, Christy Moore. In 1987, he went to the US and toured with The Pogues, The Violent Femmes, Hothouse Flowers and The Cowboy Junkies. He has enjoyed many years of successful international tours since.
“I’m allergic to nostalgia. Long nights reminiscing about the good old days are a bit of a yawn to me. I'm more excited by the good now days, the next song, the next gig, the seed of the next record."
That restless creative energy has led to the recent publishing of his first book, "Homeplace", which includes Luka's photography, excerpts from notebooks, and lyrics from a large selection of songs written over the last two decades.
But his true love is the interaction with a live audience. “Every gig is precious," he says. "Whether the Spa in Lisdoonvarna, Carre in Amsterdam, or the Melbourne Concert Hall, the privilege is the same, as is the commitment to the gig.”
This will certainly be true of his performance in Ballymaloe Gainstore.
Tickets for Luka Bloom on Saturday 9 November are €18. Book on www.ballymaloegrainstore.com or 021-4651555. Pre-show dinner in Ballymaloe House (6pm) and ticket is €63. Subject to booking fee.
