Ballymaloe Grainstore is delighted to welcome the CIT Cork School of Music Opera Platform’s presentation of Figaro’s Delights, a selection of scenes from The Marriage of Figaro.
The Marriage of Figaro is considered by many to be the best opera in history. Written in 1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during the times of the French Revolution in Paris, the opera reflects the tension between royalty and the working class. The opera is set in Spain and takes place on the wedding day of Figaro and Susanna, servants to Count Almaviva. It contains one of the greatest scenes of forgiveness between the sexes that has ever been written.
The CIT Cork School of Music Opera Platform under director Mary MacSweeney will present selected scenes which thread their way through this wonderful opera, making this performance an ideal introduction to opera for performers and audience alike. The talented group of eight singers has recently won eight prizes at the Cork Feis Maitiu competitions.
This is an opportunity to see emerging opera singers continuing their development, making the performance real, accessible and comprehensible. It promises fun for all. The running time is one hour without an interval.
Sunday buffet dinner is available in Ballymaloe House before the performance for €45. Please ring 021 465 2531 for details and to reserve.
