"Al Copley is a magnificent soloist, as raunchy or elegant as the situation requires...equally at home with New Orleans rum-boogie to Ellington era ballads." -Jazz Journal
We are delighted to welcome back Al Copley, the blues pianist, singer and co-founder of Roomful of Blues, the renowned American jump band which was twice nominated for a Grammy Award.
Al's solo performances are known for their energy, versatility and enormous sense of fun - don't be surprised to find Al underneath or atop his Steinway piano, while belting out much loved blues, jazz and popular classics.
After 16 years with Roomful of Blues, Al moved to Europe, performing all over the continent. After two decades abroad, he returned to his native USA in 2010, where he has continued to appear regularly, especially in New York City. He still tours to France and Switzerland, and is currently Resident Artist at Le Grand Hotel Bellevue in Gstaad, Switzerland.
In June 2002 and 2009, Al Copley performed four of his own full symphonic orchestrations before an audience of more than 25,000 with the Boston Festival Orchestra at Summer Pops.
He is a regular at the Montreux Jazz Festival where he has performed with Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Etta James, BB King, Jimmie Vaughan, Van Morrison, McCoy Tyner and other luminaries.
In 2016, Al initiated a Roomful of Blues reunion recording. The goal, according to co-founder Duke Robillard, was to "make a record equal to or better than our first record." They have succeeded in this! Stay tuned for the release later this year.
